Global sugar prices seem to have bottomed out over the past year as prices staged a modest recovery in recent months. World raw sugar futures in New York fell as low as 14.70 cents/lb at the end of January but are currently trading near 18 cents/lb – the same level as at this time last year. Similarly, London white sugar futures briefly visited $399.10 a tonne at the end of January but are now trading near $475 a tonne compared with about $500 a year ago.
