A comparison of anion concentrations across carbonation at the five valley factories of American Crystal Sugar Company [Full subscriber]

In the fall of 2010, American Crystal Sugar Company’s (ACSC) Hillsboro (HLB) sugarbeet processing plant experienced issues with large quantities of oxalate scale being captured in their standard liquor strainers during the processing of extract from their molasses desugarization plant. The initial culprit was thought to be incomplete elimination of oxalate in carbonation. This paper discusses a comparative study of anion elimination across carbonation undertaken at ACSC’s five processing plants in response to the problem.
