A cane-loss measuring system for machine-harvested sugarcane* [Full subscriber]

Abstract Cane loss associated with trash extraction through harvester cleaning systems is a major cost to the Australian industry. Methods to measure these losses have been either inaccurate or slow and costly. This paper reviews the issue of cane loss and cane-loss measurement in extractor-type harvesters, and discusses the development of the mobile sugar-loss measurement system that is now being used as an extension tool in the Australian sugar industry.
