Pakistan – sugar production to rise 15% in 2011/12 [Registered]

Pakistan’s sugar production may rise 15% in 2011/12 (Nov/Oct) to 4.7 million tonnes, white value, from an estimated 4.1 million this season, said Iskandar Khan, former chairman of the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA). He estimated that farmers may increase the area planted to cane by 40% to 1.4 million ha as they received almost PKR220 bln ($2.6 bln) for cane delivered this season. Pakistan’s annual domestic consumption is seen at 4.2 million tonnes and Khan added that the rise in supplies will help Pakistan to avoid imports.…
