Pakistan – Next year’s sugar output may breach 6 million tonnes [Registered]

Sugar production in Pakistan is to set expand by 20% next year as higher state-set cane prices spur farmers to boost planting, according to Shunaid Qureshi, chairman of the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association Speaking to Bloomberg, Querishi said that output may expand to 6 million tonnes in the marketing year starting Nov. 1 from 5 million tonnes this year which is likely boost surplus for exports. “The growers are getting good prices for their sugar cane,” Qureshi said. “There is a chance that the government might increase cane prices in the coming crushing season” from an all-time high 172 rupees…
