Pakistan – Millers urge government to allow export of 1 million tonnes of sugar [Registered]

The sugar industry representatives have asked the government to allow export of 1 million tonnes of sugar. Output from the current campaign is expected to be 5 million tonnes. There is a carry-over stock of some 1.2 million tonnes. With the consumption in the country of around 4.5 million tonnes, the export of 1 million tonnes sugar will not affect reserves and the country will benefit from valuable foreign exchange, noted the Chairman of Pakistan Sugar Mills Association Punjab zone Riaz Qadeer Butt.
