Heavy monsoon rains in the Badin and Thatta districts of Pakistan’s southern Sindh province, which account for about a fifth of the country’s total sugarcane output, have caused only minor damage, officials said. According to Ibrahim Mughal, president of national farmer association Agri Forum Pakistan, the rains have in fact proven to be a blessing in disguise for sugarcane as they killed pyrilla insect, which was threatening to cause a bigger damage in many areas.
