Not all EU countries support sugar quota abolition plan [Registered]

Member states were divided over the European Commission’s plans to end EU quotas for sugar in 2015, at a debate on the subject at the EU Farm Council in Luxembourg on 20th October. While some backed the plan to end quotas a year earlier than had been widely expected, others called for more time, and even an extension of the quota regime until 2020. Estonia and Malta welcomed the proposal along with Ireland, whose farm minister Simon Coveney said the bloc must end the quota system “at the earliest opportunity”.
