New $180 million sugar factory planned in Kenya [Registered]

Kenyan sugar industry got a boost with the announcement from Omnicane, the leading sugar producer in Mauritius, along with local investors Kwale International Sugar Company Limited (KISCOL) will jointly invest $180 to build a sugar factory. The factory will be located in Kwale, which is south of Kenya’s port city Mombasa. Details of the production capacity of the factory have not been disclosed. Cane will initially be sourced from 17,000 acres. In addition to the sugar factory, a 18 MW bagasse-based cogen and 30,000 litres ethanol production plants are also planned.
