Market Overview Global sugar prices fell below the 15 cents/lb in early September – hitting four-year lows. Ample supplies continue to weigh on prices with the fast pace of Brazil’s Centre/ South sugarcane harvest only adding to the supply glut. The current weakness in sugar reflects plentiful near-term availability at the height of the harvest in top producer Brazil, combined with sizeable stocks in No.2 exporter Thailand and top importer China. Global supply/demand balance (million tonnes raw value) In early September, the nominal Oct/Oct white sugar premium collapsed to $76.49 a tonne from $85.21 at the beginning of the month.…
