Market Overview While the global sugar prices made a slight recovery over the past month, breaching well over 16 cents/lb, the latest quarterly report from Rabobank notes that overall, “raw sugar prices declined abruptly during Q3 2014 as exportable stocks in Thailand and Brazil weighed on the market”. The March 2015 futures hit a low of USc15.6/lb in mid-September. While most analysts have predicted a deficit in 2014/15, with Rabobank reducing its estimate of a deficit of 0.9 mln tonnes raw value to one of 3.2 mln tonnes, ED&F Man forecasts a surplus of 3.8 mln tonnes.
