Market Overview With the sugar price close to 21¢ in the 3rd week in February, the consensus among analysts is that this is probably due to tight supplies. While most analysts forecast a return to surplus in the 2017-18 season that starts in October, inclement weather in some of the key producing states, impacting crop yields, could mean deficit continuing for the third year, particularly since forecast surplus is around 1 million to 3 million tonnes, and inventories are low.
