Market Overview Following a nine-month high of 15.66 cents in late November, the raw sugar futures on ICE was down to 14.30 cents/lb on 16th December. Two developments – one recent and one ongoing, will doubtless add bearish pressure on price development in the near future, at least. The Indian government approved on 16th December a subsidy of 35 billion rupees (US$476 million) to encourage cash-strapped mills to export 6 million tonnes of sugar in the 2020/21 year that started on Oct. 1. This translates into subsidy of 5,833 rupees (US$79.34) per tonne, which is lower than last year’s subsidy…
