Raw sugar for March delivery settled at 19.82 cents/pound on January 18 after reaching a two-and-a-half-week high earlier in the session at 20.25 cents. The white sugar contract expiring in March settled at US$551.60/tonne. World free-market sugar prices rose 13.35% in Q4 and were the best-performing soft commodity for the three months. In its latest update, S&P Global has put the global sugar surplus at 2.9 million tonnes raw value, while the International Sugar Organization (ISO) on Nov 22 projected a global 2022/23 sugar surplus of 6.2 million tonnes.
