Market overview Global glut continues to bear heavily on sugar futures. March raw sugar was at 13.03 cents/lb on 18th January. Worries about the market being deluged remained in focus amid expectations for strong output from Thailand, the EU and India. This was exacerbated further on January 17th after reports that Brazil’s agriculture minister said the country is considering lifting the 20% tariff on U.S.-produced ethanol, raising concerns about additional supplies of sugar pressuring the market.
