Mexico – Price-fixing sugar cartel fined US$4.9 mln [Registered]

Mexico’s competition authority has imposed fines of nearly 90 million pesos (US$4.9 million) on seven companies, 10 individuals and a trade association for fixing the price of sugar and restricting supply of the product in 2013. The Federal Competition Commission, or COFECE, said the companies — which included Zucarmex, Domino Sugar Mexico, Ingenio de Huixtla and others — had worked with the National Chamber of the Sugar and Alcohol Industries to engage in anti-competitive practice for 42 days between October and December 2013.
