Lignocellulosic biofuels producer Kior secures $100 million investment [Registered]

The US start-up Kior recently announced that it has raised U$100 million that will help finance a new biorefinery. Kior’s proprietary technology thermochemically converts lignocellulosic feedstocks such as wood chip into gasoline and diesel fuel. The funding from the Silicon Valley venture capital firm run by Vinod Khosla (U$85 million) and Bill Gates fund (U$15 million) is lifeline for a business that has fallen far short of its production forecasts this year and looked close to failure over two months ago.
