Kenya – Omnicane acquires 25% stake in the Kwale project [Registered]
Omnicane has bought a 25% stake in the Kwale International Sugar Company (Kiscol) project for $20 million. This includes both its plantation and factory which is expected to be up and running by 2014, reported Reuters. Mauritius-based Omnicane said that by mid-2013 the $200 million Kiscol project will boast greenfield 5000 hectare sugarcane plantation with accompanying roads, irrigation and other infrastructure. By February 2014, project’s sugar factory is expected to be operational with a capacity to crush 3,000 tonnes of cane per day and cogenerate 18MW from bagasse-based power plant.
