Jamaica – cane production sector boosted with investment [Registered]

Jamaican Agriculture Ministry is to invest JM$3 billion (U$ 32.9 million) in cane farming as part of its efforts to boost replanting and the modernisation of the industry. The Ministry said the funds, which are being provided under the European Union -supported Cane Expansion Fund, will be made available over the next four years. The funding aims to boost cane production by some 800,000 tonnes through expansion in cane acreage from 12,000 hectares to 20,000 hectares. This should boost sugar production by some 80,000 tonnes.
