Intense sweeteners adversely impact gut health, spiking blood sugar level [Full subscriber]

Researchers from the US (Johns Hopkins University in Maryland), Germany (German National Cancer Center (DKFZ)), and Israel (Weizmann Institute of Science) note in a recently published study the introduction of artificial sweeteners, or non-nutritive sweeteners (NNS) into the mainstream diet, which had previously been thought to be relatively harmless, may harm human gut health. Some can alter human consumers’ microbiomes – the trillions of microbes that live in our gut – in a way that can change a person’s blood sugar levels.
