Indonesia’s Forestry Ministry has offered 2 million ha of degraded and forest land which was previously allocated for palm plantations to be used as sugarcane production, as it looks to boost domestic output in southeast Asia’s largest sugar consumer, Forestry Minister Zulkifli Hasan said. He added that the country needed to reduce its dependence on sugar imports and the Forestry Ministry will offer the land through advertisements in the media.
