Indonesia – Food processors sugar use to rise by 10% annually [Registered]

Indonesia’s food and beverage sector is likely to increase sugar use by 10% annually for the next five years, according to Adhi Lukman, Chairman of the Indonesian Food and Beverage Industries Association (GAPMMI), speaking to Reuters recently. This expansion in use is on the back of country’s booming population of 240 million people driving domestic demand. This year, the food processing sector will consume 2.5 million tonnes, up 19% from 2011. “The food industry is growing, with beverage growth higher than food” in response to changing diets and rising incomes said Lukman.
