India’s sugar output increases by 19% in the last quarter [Registered]

India’s sugar output over the period 1 Oct. to 15 Dec. ’11 rose by about 19% to 4.58 million tonnes from 3.86 million tonnes last year earlier due to higher crushing in major growing regions, according to the Indian Sugar Mills Association. Number of mills operating during the said period was 452 compared with 445 last year. In the largest sugar producing state Maharashtra, sugar production was 1.75 million tonnes compared with 1.63 million tonnes last year, whereas for Uttar Pradesh, the output was 50% higher this year (1.29 million tonnes).…
