India – Minister calls for restructuring of the sugar industry [Registered]
Highlighting the lack of competitiveness of the sugar sector in Maharashtra State, the Union agriculture minister Sharad Pawar recently called for urgent steps to reverse the trend, reports Times of India. Pawar was speaking during the launch of the book ‘Oos, Brazilcha – Bharatacha’ written by Datta Sawant which which loosely translates into ‘Sugarcane farming in Brazil and India’. “I have come to know that at present, only 55 of the 150 sugar factories in the state, are financially strong.
