India – Agriculture minister tells the Co-operative sector to become more competitive [Registered]

India’s agriculture minister Sharad Pawar told the co-operative sector in Maharashtra to increase its competitiveness, and become as professional and innovative as the private sugar companies have done, reported Business Standard. Speaking at the 57th annual general meeting of the Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories on 21st September in Maharashtra, a representative body of about 170 cooperative units, he called upon them to control costs, increasing both cane and sugar productivity and reduce reliance on state and central governments.
