India – Export of 500,000 t sugar approved by the government [Registered]

India has issued a formal order for the export of an additional 500,000 tonnes of sugar under the open general licence (OGL) scheme approved by the Empowered Group of Ministers last week. The Food Ministry will distribute the quota among mills on the basis of their last three year’s average production, with any mills set up in 2010/11 not allowed to export. The government has also asked mills to register starting June 28 for the latest round of unrestricted exports, and the permission would be granted within 3 days of application.
