GranBio and Rhodia partner to produce n-butanol from cane residues in Brazil [Registered]

The Brazilian biotech company GranBio and the Belgium company Rhodia recently announced that they are partnering to produce bio n-butanol from sugarcane crop residues and bagasse. The companies plan to build the n-butanol plant in Brazil, which is expected to be operational in 2015. The plant capacity is 100,000 tonnes. The companies did not disclose the actual investment, but market sources suggest that such a plant will cost U$250 million.
