Global sugar price likely to recover in the second half of 2012 says Macquarie [Registered]

Macquarie Commodities Research is forecasting a global sugar surplus of 7.9 million tonnes for 2011/12. Speaking at a briefing today, Kona Haque, the lead analyst, stated that the “huge expansion” in sugar production in India, Thailand , EU and Russia have more than countered the drop in output in Brazil. Haque pointed out that after two years of poor weather, the return of “normal” weather has fostered the expansion in production of most commodities which has resulted in decline in prices by 10-15%. The expansion in sugar output is likely to be bearish in the first half of the year…
