Ghana’s sugar industry to be revitalised with investment from India [Registered]

Through a multi-million dollar investment, India will be reviving Ghana’s sugar industry according to local press reports citing Indian High Commissioner Rajinder Bhagat. The investment will support the building of new sugar factory at Kommenda in central Ghana to replace one that was closed down in 1982. The project is expected to generate over 12,000 jobs for cane production and sugar processing as well as indirect jobs. Bhagat said experts from India were expected in Ghana to access new high-yielding and disease-resistant cultivars of sugarcane to boost production ensure good turnover for cane growers.
