France -Village store manager in Bordeaux charged for unauthorized sale of sugar to wine producers [Registered]

A store manager of a grocery store in a small village in Bordeaux was recently given a suspended 5000 euro fine for selling some 157 tonnes of sugar to producers of sweet wine over a period of two years, reports AFP. In France, wine producers are allowed to add grape must or sugar during fermentation to facilitate increase alcohol content, but with strict rules on the quantity used.
