Excessive ratooning not entirely blamed for reduced cane output in C/S Brazil [Registered]

Cane production for the 2011/2012 campaign in the center-south is expected to be over 50 million tonnes lower than previous year – the lowest in 20 years. Regions experiencing low productivity include Ribeirão Preto, São José Black River and Araçatuba. Cane growers body UNICA, in conjunction with the Center for Sugarcane Technology (CTC), revised cane production in the Centre-South to 488.50 million tonnes, which is 12.29% lower than the 2010/2011 production of 556.95 million tonnes.
