EU’s less than full hearted approach to biofuel sustainability [Registered]

The EU Commission launched in late July an EU-wide sustainability benchmark for biofuels, but kicked a major aspect of the guarantee into the long grass. Energy Commissioner Gunther Oettinger had been due to unveil an EU scheme for registering biofuel producers that respect environmental and greenhouse gas (GHG) emission guidelines, enabling companies to sell an alternative to ordinary petrol across the entire bloc.
