EU likely to end sugar quotas in 2016 [Registered]

EU is proposing to abolish sugar production quotas and guaranteed baseline prices one year later than originally foreseen, it has recently emerged. The plans – which will form part of the European Commission’s legislative proposals for CAP reform in October – are intended to bring sugar beet prices within the bloc down, closer to those seen on the world market and thereby raising export prospects, EU officials say.
