EU – Isoglucose production likely to triple post 2017 abolition of sugar quotas [Registered]

Consumption of isoglucose, a sweetener made from cereals, will more than triple in the European Union over the coming decade following the end to sugar quotas in September 2017, the bloc’s regulatory arm acknowledged in a recently published report (http://ec.europa.eu/agriculture/markets-and-prices/medium-term-outlook/2013/fullrep_en.pdf). Until now, isoglucose production has been capped at around 700,000 tonnes, less than 5% of the sugar produced in the EU (in the US it accounts for 50%).
