EU cane sugar refiners demand fair treatment [Registered]

EU Farm Commissioner Dacian Ciolos has defended the bloc’s sugar regime against rising criticism that it is failing to provide a level playing field between the cane and beet sectors, and putting thousands of jobs at risk in the former. At a meeting with concerned MEPs in Strasbourg in early, Ciolos claimed that policy decision on regulating the sugar market had been both “fair and balanced”.
