EU addresses current sugar deficit [Registered]

In late February, the EU decided to raise sugar supply on the internal market in the face of spiralling prices, voting through new import quotas and opening up the possibility for out-of-quota sugar to be sold in the EU. In a last-minute change of heart, EU proposed opening up a zero-duty tariff quota (TRQ) for some 300 000 tonnes of raw or refined sugar.
