Energy efficiency through recycling waste heat [Registered]

Some 50% of energy produced by cars, factories and power plants is wasted as heat escapes into the atmosphere. Researchers at Oregon State University (OSU) have developed a prototype that allows the capture and use of low-to-medium grade waste heat escaping from exhaust pipe of automobiles, diesel generators, or being wasted by factories and electrical utilities. The research led by Hailei Wang, at the School of Mechanical, Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering at OSU is published in Applied Thermal Engineering.
