Employee number in the US sugar sector falls [Registered]

The US sugar industry has seen the number of people it employs contract sharply but economic activity has jumped, according to a recent LMC International report. In 1993/94, LMC said the total number of people working in the industry stood at around 253,200. By 2009/10, the number declined to just under 130,000 or a fall of nearly 50%. Economic activity generated by the US sugar industry jumped to $19.4 billion in 2009/10, from $10.67 billion in 1993/94, the report said.…
