Dow E&T partners with Solazyme to produce biobased dielectric insulating fluids [Registered]

Dow Electrical & Telecommunications (Dow E&T), recently announced plans to partner with Solazyme, to exploit its algae based technology platform to produce biobased Dielectric Insulating Fluids (DIFs). The estimated $2 billion DIF market represents more than 500 million gallons (2273 million litres) of opportunity for the partnership. DIFs are commonly mineral-oil based and are crucial for the efficient running and maintenance of transformers and other electrical applications.
