Dow and Mitsui to build a biopolymers complex in Brazil [Registered]

Dow Chemical Co and Mitsui & Co Ltd have formed a joint venture to build a biopolymers complex in Brazil, using sugarcane ethanol to produce bioplastics for packaging. According to Reuters, the complex is likely to cost more than $2 billion to build. The investments are part of a push by major global oil and petrochemicals companies to tap into Brazil’s cost competitive sugar cane – ethanol industry’s growing potential as an exporter of renewable fuels and bioplastics.
