Diffusion and factory operations [Full subscriber]

In 1967 three bagasse diffusers were commissioned in Southern Africa. Their performances had not been consistently good due to adjustments to gain experience with the new equipment. However extractions were high and financial savings were possible (Buchanan, 1967).  Four years later boiling house performances of 4 bagasse diffusers were compared to those of nearby milling factories. The trend was towards a reduction in sucrose losses but changes in analytical techniques and teething problems with diffusion clouded the results (Lamusse, 1971).
