Deregulation possible for Indian sugar sector [Registered]

Deregulation of the Indian sugar industry is now within the realms of possibility, Vivek Saraogi, president of the Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA), declared at the International Sugar Organisation’s annual conference in London on 30th November ’10. Saraogi reminded delegates that hitherto India’s sugar sector has been subjected to a high degree of regulation by the government. This control has included cane area reservation and a dual cane pricing system: from central government and state governments, respectively.
