Demand for microbial-based rubber intermediates produced from sugar grows [Registered]

Global demand for both natural rubber (NR) and synthetic rubber (SR) is forecast to reach 27.2 million tonnes, with NR consumption of 11.5 million tonnes, according to the International Rubber Study Group (IRSG), a trade organization that compiles statistics on rubber. By 2020, the demand is forecast to reach 36 million tonnes, of which 16.5 million tonnes is expected to be NR. The largest consumers of rubber are tyre manufacturers.
