Cuba closes Ministry of Sugar [Registered]

Cuba’s Ministry of Sugar which supported the production of 8 million tonnes sugar before the collapse of the Soviet Union, is to close down, according to the Communist Party newspaper Granma. A cabinet meeting presided by President Raul Castro decided to “put an end to the Ministry of Sugar, which no longer fulfills functions of state,” and it will be replaced with Grupo Empresarial de la Agroindustria Azucarera.
