Cuba – 2010/11 sugar output up on last year [Registered]

Cuba produced 1.15 million tonnes of raw sugar in the now concluded 2010/11 season, 6% above expectations, the official daily Granma reported. Cane yields were pegged at 32.5 tonnes per ha and milling at 66% of capacity. Thirty five mills, or 90% of those open, met their plans as did 12 of 13 provinces, according to the report. Good weather throughout the season appeared to be the most important factor combined with improved organisation and an early start for some mills.
