Cobalt Technologies embarks on n-butanol production demonstration plant [Registered]

Cobalt Technologies recently secured $20 million Series D funding from The Whittemore Collection Ltd to build its new 470,000 gallon (2,138,500 litres) per year demonstration plant in Alpena, Michigan (USA), which is claimed to be the world’s first cellulosic biorefinery for the production of n-butanol. The plant is under construction and is expected to become operational in April 2012. This funding will support the eventual production of n-butanol on commercial scale and progress its partnership with the U.S. Navy to develop bio jet fuel.
