Clarifier muds to the diffuser [Full subscriber]

The concept of sending clarifier muds to the extraction plant for disposal with bagasse is not new.   van Hengel and van der Waal (1999) note that it was applied in the Java sugar industry in 1940. Results from 3 factories with mills, indicating successful operations, are given. In 1967 a diffuser was installed in South Africa to increase crushing capacity and sucrose extraction. Many operational problems had to be addressed, percolation of juice through the prepared cane bed being one of the major issues.
