CIS states likely to produce well over 5 million tonnes sugar in 2012/13 [Registered]

Sugar production in 2012/13 in the CIS customs union which includes Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan is expected to pass well over 5 million tonnes, said Andrei Bodin, the chairman of Russia’s Sugar Producers’ Union during his presentation at the CIS Sugar Market 2012 conference in Moscow. This makes the customs union practically self-sufficient, he said. The three states are forecast to produce 5.6 million tonnes collectively while consumption is estimated to rise to about 6.3 million tonnes.
