China to stockpile domestic sugar to boost prices and industry [Registered]
China is considering a plan to stockpile up to 2 million tonnes of domestically produced sugar this year as part of efforts to support sagging domestic prices and assist farmers, according to industry sources recently. Analysts told Dow Jones Newswires that the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the economic planning agency in charge of making a decision on the issue, was looking into a plan that might involve the central government buying 1 million tonnes, the Guangxi Autonomous region purchasing 600,000 tonnes and other area authorities buying 400,000 tonnes.
