China – Imports and smuggled sugar batters the local industry [Registered]

China’s sugar industry is facing significant challenge to compete with imported and smuggled sugar, according to local press Xinhua. Data from the China Sugar Association (CSA) indicate that the industry produced 13,318,000 tonnes of sugar in the 2013/2014, with sales a mere 77% of the same period last year, with 10.24 million tonnes sold by the end of August.
